We weren't bothered that it was a bit odd and that we didn't have a working TV etc but I can imagine many people being upset with this place.

If you like specific standards and all the bells and whistles that come with a 4* plus hotel stay, don't do it, simply because it won't be to your taste and is unlikely to meet your requirements. So, if you're into using Airbnb this place would definitely suit. There was mismatched crockery in the cupboards and the decor/bedding isn't in keeping with what you'd expect for a dedicated holiday apartment. Having read a very negative review of this place which suggests that the owners let out their friends rooms to make some extra cash, I wouldn't be surprised. We were pleased to have a good amount of space though and everything seemed to be clean. The TV didn't work and there was no WiFi, and the blinds across the window didn't fully close (a bit annoying as we backed onto a narrow street where people were regularly walking by). The kitchen was clean, bathroom decent and the bed was comfortable (we slept on the circular shaped one just for something different!) My partner and I are into places with a bit of character but I must admit that this place is certainly very bizarre in its decor and is a touch old fashioned, no crisp white bedding or flat screen televisions so I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone with very specific standards. This could be because they'd double-booked, either way we were happy to have our own privacy and a bigger space. We were expecting one of the colourful little rooms we'd seen online but ended up with a sizeable studio apartment, he told us that normally this is for people of 4 or more and was more expensive but he'd given it to us as other rooms weren't ready. We arrived and were taken around the corner and up some steps to a private apartment block, the guy didn't seem to speak much English but my German was good enough to converse with him and get all the information we needed. A few days later, we booked to stay there on our last night in the city as it was the only place we could that looked decent and was under 50 Euros a night. Not the most elegant place to eat as it is predominantly a pizza/sandwich bar but we were on a budget and unwilling to pay the inflated prices further down the river. The food was good but the inside area is tiny so we sat on a bench outside.
On our first day in Cologne we dropped by Haus Enteresan to get a drink and a sandwich (other places along the river are very expensive as you'd expect).
